There’s a new book out titled ‘Representing Justice’ by Judith Resnik and Dennis Curtis that has been put out by Yale University Press. It explores the iconography of Justice, as a Goddess and icon throughout history. There is a great review of it in the New York times that is worth checking out that highlights how the book explores how this concept turned icon/Goddess has been viewed and ever present through out history & how it’s representation influenced courts and ideas about justice. More information and images from the book can be found here.

In contemporary art, Shepard Fairey’s mural ‘Peace Goddess’ has been vandalized. Located in the Arts District in Downtown Los Angeles. The mural was painted in 2009 for the LA Freewalls Projects, which is a public arts initiative is focused on bringing large-scale outdoor murals to the community of Downtown Los Angeles, and a project of Lahoda Fine Arts and JetSet Graffiti. The mural was defaced by two artists on Wednesday that are represented by the nearby R&R Gallery. Owner of R&R C.W. Mihlenberger defended the action saying that “it was getting old.”. Fairey is repairing the damaged parts, and a spokeperson for Fairey said, “Shepard does not think that charges should be pressed against them as long as they are willing to pay for the damage and apologize to Mr. [Paul] Solomon. (building owner)” . The mural Peace Goddess in it’s original incarnation can be seen here.

Finally, FilmDrunk as an amazing collection of Nicholas Cage Wicker Man spoofs. If you hated the film (or even if you didn’t), you will find these a hoot. Below is my favorite.

I hope all of you have a most blessed and festive Solstice!
